Killin' it in the Kitchen

This will become your favourite salad dressing!

This is our favourite homemade salad dressing. I don’t serve any other salad dressing! Double the recipe because it will go fast – especially with summer salads.

I found this recipe during a 2003 Northern California road trip in the small town of McCloud, California at the charming, country-chic B&B, the McCloud Mercantile Hotel. While staying there I fell in love with their spinach salad and enjoyed it so much at every meal! The salad dressing was key. And…their hotel shop had a cookbook with the dressing recipe! I’ve tweaked it a little and substituted the original table sugar ingredient with both honey and maple syrup. It’s been a hit ever since!

  • I use this dressing with all salads.
  • Keep it refrigerated.
  • Let it sit at room temperature for an hour or so and stir well before serving.

1 cup olive oil
1/2 cup honey or maple syrup
1/3 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup chopped red onion
1 tbsp water
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground mustard (But in a pinch I’ve also used a tablespoon of prepared mustards!)

Blend together all ingredients for a smooth consistency. That’s it! So easy-peasy!
